Summer Sunday Meetups!

UU Church of Las Cruces Sanctuary - 10:30 AM and afterwards

Please join us on any Sunday service at 10:30 AM to continue growing spiritually. Afterwards, we can always discuss our future as a group before next semester. We are currently looking for new officers (co-chairs and secretary) as well as ways to stay connected during the summer! For more info on the services, click here or send us an email!

3/14/2013 - Meetup: Introduction to Buddhism!

Skeen Hall Room 200 at 6:00 PM

Come and learn about the basics of Buddhism, the history, the practices, and how you can incorporate the teachings into your life if you choose. Facilitated by Reba Monterra. All are invited to attend. As usual, we will have FREE pizza and drinks!

 

2/16/2013 - Hiking at Dripping Springs!

Everyone can join! We will meet at the Skeen Hall parking lot (near the front of the building) and leave promptly at 9 AM to carpool to Dripping Springs. We can probably fit about 4-5 people per car, so please bring $1, as it is $5 per car. Do your best to bring hiking boots. Be sure to bring water and a lunch or snack. 

 

2/12/2013 - Dinner and "Samsara" Movie!

 

Everyone can join! All expenses will be covered by NMSUUs funds. We will meet at Andele's Dog House for dinner at  6:15 PM. 1983 Calle Del Norte, Mesilla NM. Afterwards, or if you can't make dinner, we will walk to the Fountain Theatre (2469 Calle de Guadalupe, Mesilla NM) to see "Samsara," a visually appealing movie about coming together and spirituality across the world. 2/7/2013 - NMSUUs First Meetup!

Skeen Hall Room 200 at 6:00 PM

At this meetup, we will go over and plan together all of the workshops, activities, soulful sundowns we want to do this semester! We ask that everyone bring a religious or spiritual relic, statue, book, or icon that is important to them. It can also be something that has inspired you in your spiritual journey. We will discuss what we brought to get to know each other a little better! All are invited to attend. As usual, we will have free pizza and drinks at all our meetups!

 

12/6/2012 - NMSUUs Next Gathering! "Building Your Own Theology Series 4: Holidays"

Skeen Hall Room 200 at 6:00 PM

The last part of the program will be on how you celebrate the holiday seasons. There will be discussion about what holidays are important to us and what traditions we follow. We will still have materials for new people to make their "philosophy books," and bring yours next time if you have one! All are invited to attend. As usual, we will have free pizza and drinks at all our gatherings!

 

11/15/2012 - NMSUUs Next Gathering! "Building Your Own Theology Series 3: Your God-cept"

The third part of the program will be on your god-cept and how you define the divine/god/goddess/spirit/universe. We will go more in depth about what actually we believe, including what defines our path. We will still have materials for new people to make their "philosophy books," and bring yours next time if you have one! All are invited to attend. As usual, we will have free food at all our gatherings!

 

11/11/2012 - Soulful Sundown: "Walking the Labyrinth"

UU Church of Las Cruces (2000 S. Solano, Off University Ave) at the Labyrinth at 4:30 PM

Come and join us for our second Soulful Sundown this year! We have a labyrinth at the church that never gets used so we are going to incorporate walking the labyrinth into our spiritual gathering. We will have FREE food of course, community, and we will conduct discussion and bring awareness to our own spirituality by walking the labyrinth. For more info, email us!

 

11/1/2012 - NMSUUs Next Gathering! "Building Your Own Theology Series 2: Ethics"

The second part of the program will be on ethics, how we define ethics, and we will be building our own theology and philosophy with activities and discussion to challenge, explore, and discover what spiritual path resonates with you! The program for the next few gatherings will be "Building Your Own Theology," which is a series of workshops we are putting on to help you to challenge, explore, and discover what spiritual path resonates with you! As usual, we will have free food at all our gatherings!

 

4/29/2012 - Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser for NMSUUs

9:00 AM - 10:30 AM - UU Church of Las Cruces (2000 S. Solano) RE Building

Come and enjoy breakfast at the RE building for a good cause by supporting the UUCLC's very own campus ministry! We will be serving pancakes of various flavors with syrup, bacon, juice, and coffee between 9 and 10:30 AM. So you can choose to come and eat after the 9:00 service, before the 10:30 service or the Roundtable, or simply to just come and eat. Tickets can be purchased starting Sunday April 22nd from Cassandra Calway, and can be purchased at the door the day of the breakfast. It is by donation (suggested $5-$7). 4/15/2012 - NMSUUs Off-Campus Meeting (Great Conversation on Ethical Eating)

12:00-2:00 PM - UU Church of Las Cruces (2000 S. Solano, off University Ave) - RE Building Blue Room

This meeting's "Great Conversation" we will be discussing ethical eating. What is ethical eating? Why is it important? Do you eat ethically? Why or why not? There are no right or wrong answers, just discussion in a room of welcoming and eager listeners. We want to hear what you think. As always, FREE FOOD. Afterwards we will discuss business and what the group is up to. Hope to see you there!

3/29/2012 - Student Interfaith Dialogue

6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. - Corbett Center 3rd Floor Ballrooms

Sponsored by the NMSU Interfaith Council. For more information about this event, email heartsongwoman@yahoo.com. This is an event that encourages students and members of the community to engage in spiritual conservation. Various student faith organizations on campus will be present for education and tolerance. Included will be a religious speed dating session to learn of other faiths, and a great conversation about what an interfaith NMSU looks like.

 

3/25/2012 - UU Spring Picnic

2:00 p.m. - White Sands (Group Use Area)

We would like to make this an annual event. We have invited folks from UU Church of Las Cruces, UU Community of El Paso and UU Fellowship of Otero County. Join us for a potluck style picnic, bring a dish to share. We will share stories and information about the coming of Spring and the holidays associated with Spring. This event will take place at 12 pm in the Religious Education building at the UUCLC after the second service. We will be holding our monthly "Great Conversation" in which members of the community are invited to discuss a topic of interest ranging from social justice to religious tolerance. Unitarian Universalism is a liberal, open-minded faith that opens its doors to people from all backgrounds. The topic for this month will revolve around the Spring holidays and season and what it means to you, more info will be available soon. A short business meeting will precede and this event is not sponsored by a UUCLC Committee. Lunch will be provided for free. Hope to see you all there!

 

3/1/2012 - "NMSUUs March On-Campus Meeting"

This event will take place at 6:30 PM at the Garcia Hall La Vista Learning Center. This will be a meeting based on abundance and emptiness as we explore opportunities that are available for fundraising and attending GA in June. There will be a short meditation about how to cut out negativity and invite positivity into our lives especially during the middle of this stressful semester! Free food! Hope to see you there!

 

2/9/2012 - "NMSUUs Valentine's Day-Themed Meeting"

This event will take place at 6:30 PM at the Garcia Hall La Vista Learning Center. This will be a Valentine's Day-themed meeting where we will explore the meaning of love and the importance of loving ourselves by writing Valentine's to ourselves! Free food! Hope to see you there!

 

1/15/2012 - "NMSUUs Visioning Meeting"

This event will take place at 12:00 PM in the Religious Education building at the UU Church of Las Cruces. This will be a visioning meeting in which we will discuss everything that we will do doing for the upcoming semester as well as meeting times, officers, events, retreats and more. First, we will be joining the Social Action Committee for free lunch! Hope to see you there, there is still opportunities to get involved!!!

 

11/20/2011 - "The Great Conversation - TBA"

This event will take place at 12 pm in the Religious Education building at the UUCLC after the second service. We will be holding our third monthly "Great Conversation" in which members of the community are invited to discuss a topic of interest ranging from social justice to religious tolerance. Unitarian Universalism is a liberal, open-minded faith that opens its doors to people from all backgrounds. The topic for this month is TBA so far, more info will be available soon. A short business meeting will precede and this event is sponsored by the UUCLC Caring Ministry Committee. Lunch will be provided for free. Hope to see you all there!

 

11/10/2011 - "NMSUUs Thanksgiving-Themed Meeting"

This event will take place at 6:30 PM at the Garcia Hall La Vista Learning Center. This will be a Thanksgiving-themed meeting and we will be decorating turkeys and sharing stories of  our Thanksgiving experiences and what we are thankful for. We will also be partaking in the first part of the Create-Your-Own-Religion workshop. Free food! Hope to see you there!

 

10/16/2011 - "The Great Conversation - Your Religious Journey as a Member or Ally of the LGBTQ Community"

This event will take place at 12 pm in the Religious Education building at the UUCLC after the second service. We will be holding our second monthly "Great Conversation" in which members of the community are invited to discuss a topic of interest ranging from social justice to religious tolerance. Unitarian Universalism is a liberal, open-minded faith that opens its doors to people from all backgrounds. For this month, we will be discussing the various issues that surround the GLBTQ community in regards to religion and what opportunities for fellowship that the UU Church has for GLBTQ people. A short business meeting will proceed and this event is sponsored by the UUCLC Welcoming Congregation Committee. Lunch will be provided for free. Hope to see you all there!

 

10/13/2011 - "NMSUUs Halloween-Themed Meeting"

This event will take place at 6:30 PM at the Garcia Hall La Vista Learning Center. This will be a fall and Halloween-themed meeting and we will be decorating pumpkins and sharing stories of Halloween experiences. There will also be discussion of LGBTQ issues in preparation for Sunday's "Great Conversation". Free food! Hope to see you there!

 

9/18/2011 - "The Great Conversation - Personal Paths In Unitarian Universalism"

This event will take place at 12 pm in the Religious Education building at the UUCLC after the second service. We will be holding our first monthly "Great Conversation" in which members of the community are invited to discuss a topic of interest ranging from social justice to religious tolerance. Unitarian Universalism is a liberal, open-minded faith that opens its doors to all religious paths. For this month, we will be discussing the various sources of Unitarian Universalism and personal paths within the church, including those that adhere to Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Paganism, Atheism and much more. Find out what draws these people to UU and what their faith means to them. A short business meeting will precede and this event is sponsored by the UUCLC Membership Committee.
